DESE Community Meetings regarding PARCC

posted Mar 5, 2014, 5:55 AM by Dianne Georgantas
Dear Longmeadow Families:

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the State's Readiness Centers are hosting several community meetings so educators and parents can learn about PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers), a next-generation test in English/Language Arts and Math. Participants will learn about this year's field test—where students will be "testing the test"—as well as the first operational PARCC test scheduled for 2014-2015. If PARCC is as good as or better than MCAS at measuring academic progress, then the Massachusetts' Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will consider replacing MCAS (ELA and Math) with PARCC. The community meetings will provide an opportunity for educators and parents to ask questions and get additional information. Please join us!

Locally, there will be two community meetings, both on March 20th:  the first will be 3:00-5:00 pm, and the second will be 6:30-8:30 pm.  Both will be in the Holyoke High School auditorium, 500 Beech St., Holyoke, MA 01040.

To let us know how many people are coming, so we can plan for refreshments, registration is requested (though not required).  To register, or to find other regional PARCC community meetings, go to:

Please share this message widely with other educators, school committees, and parents.  We hope to see you there!

Best regards,
Andy Churchill
Executive Director, Pioneer Valley Educational Readiness Center (PERC)
