# of Seats Available

K (Half Day)

K (Full Day – parent/guardian responsible for tuition payment of $4,150)

The following process will be used in accepting applications for these openings:

1.      Applications and guidelines for School Choice may be obtained by accessing the Longmeadow Public Schools Website at: or by contacting the Office of the Superintendent, 127 Grassy Gutter Road, Longmeadow, MA 01106, telephone 565-4200, ext. 12 beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.

2.      Applications for School Choice will be accepted by the Superintendent of Schools.   Applications should be addressed to:

Office of the Superintendent

School Choice

Longmeadow Public Schools

127 Grassy Gutter Road

Longmeadow, MA 01106

If the application is for the sibling of a student currently enrolled in the Longmeadow Public Schools, in grades K-11, under the School Choice Program, and who will remain in the School Choice Program during the 2010-2011 school year, please mark the envelope clearly, "SIBLING" (see #3).

Applications must arrive in the Superintendent's Office by 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2010, to receive consideration.

3.      Applications for vacancies will be processed in the following manner:

a.      Applications from siblings of students already enrolled in the Longmeadow Public Schools under the School Choice program and who will remain in the School Choice program during the 2010-2011 school year, will, by law, receive priority in placement for advertised vacancies.  Such students will be accepted first, and if there are more sibling applications at any grade than vacancies at that grade, a random drawing will be conducted among them for each grade to determine placement.

b.      Once siblings have been placed, the remaining vacancies will be filled by a random drawing for the grade level.  On Monday May 3, 2010 at 3:00 p.m., the Superintendent and a member of the School Committee will randomly select School Choice Applications from among the applications received by 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2010, sufficient to fill the vacancies remaining after the placement of siblings.

4.      Should the number of applications at any grade exceed the number of vacancies at that grade, all applicants not accepted, whose applications were received by 3:00 p.m., April 30, 2010, will be randomly selected by grade and placed, in the order of their selection, on a waiting list labeled "WAITING LIST #1. Grade ___."  This wait list will be in effect until the beginning of the second quarter at which time the list will be destroyed.  “Wait lists” do not carry over from one year to the next.

5.      Students accepted to the Longmeadow Public Schools will be notified on by phone, with a follow-up letter to be sent.  Parents must make a commitment to accept placement in writing no later than May 14, 2010.

6.      Parents of accepted School Choice students are responsible to transport their child to and from the designated school.  Longmeadow Public Schools does not provide transportation for School Choice students.

7.      All applications received after April 30, 2010, will be placed on a waiting list labeled "WAITING LIST #2, Grade __," in the order in which they are received.

8.      New Choice students will not be admitted after the completion of the first school quarter in 2010-2011, and applications will NOT be kept on file.  If an opening occurs between May 14, 2010, and the opening of school, the next student on the waiting list will be contacted to see if they are interested in attending the Longmeadow Public Schools.

9.      Parents who apply for and are accepted into the Longmeadow Public Schools as school choice students in the full day kindergarten slots will be responsible for the tuition payment of $4,150.  The Longmeadow Public Schools offers the full-day kindergarten program, on a tuition basis, for residents of Longmeadow and the same tuition schedule will be adhered to for any student accepted as a school choice student into the full day program. Upon acceptance, the parent or guardian would be required to submit payment of a $250 deposit.  The remaining balance will be divided into two equal payments of $1,950 due September 1st and February 1st.
