Chromebook Information
Chromebooks are school-issued devices, and thus, they are school property. School property is expected to be used safely and responsibly in accordance with the Acceptable Use Agreement.
Students who lose their Chromebook, recklessly or willfully damage a Chromebook, or whose gross negligence damages the device, will be held accountable for the cost of repair or replacement. The cost of full replacement is $250. Students will not be charged for device failures or accidental damage, as determined by the Director of Technology when ordinary care has been taken.
To care for their chromebook properly and avoid having to pay for repair or replacement, students should:
Keep Chromebooks on a flat surface like a table or desk.
Handle the chromebook with two hands. Avoid carrying the chromebook by the screen and avoid walking or running with it in your hands.
Avoid placing physical items between the screen and the keyboard like a pen or highlighter during usage. If the chromebook is quickly closed, the item may shatter the screen.
Avoid throwing backpacks that contain a chromebook.
Avoid eating or drinking near a chromebook.
If your chromebook has an issue, report it to a teacher or administrator immediately.
Lastly, as always, never leave your chromebook unattended. Log off when you are not using it and keep your password private.
For more information about caring for and maintaining your Chromebook, see the Google and LPS recommendations listed here.
Thank you, in advance, for discussing the handling of the school-issued chromebook. You may wish to examine your child’s chromebook. If you notice damage or malfunction, please discuss with your child and report to an administrator.
Beginning this school year, replacement chromebooks will be issued by the LPS Technology Department located at 535 Bliss Road in the LPS Central Office. Students in need of a chromebook due to loss or disrepair should book an appointment with the Technology Department using this link. If the department determines that the device was recklessly or willfully damaged or that it was the result of gross negligence, an invoice for the cost of replacement or repair will be issued by the LPS technology department.
The primary purpose of this practice is to streamline the process of dealing with "students in need of a Chromebook due to loss or disrepair." I find it necessary to make clear what this is not about:
Redirecting requests for everyday Chromebook issues to the IT Department calendar appointment requests.
To guide parents and students in contacting IT by Helpdesk phone or tickets to solve everyday Chromebook issues.
